Our organisation is training cooking stove manufactures to build cooking stoves with chimneys using readily available materials: loam earth, cow dung, rice husks and sand are used for the production of bricks, iron pipes for stability and pottery for the stove pipe. Depending of the type of stove, different materials are needed.
The cooking stove manufacturer can build different models to fit the size and needs of the household. Each household contributes to the work and provides the materials for the clay bricks and tiles.
The cooking stove manufacturer and the iron and pottery components must be paid for. The costs for a cooking stove are around 12 €. Even if that is not much in our eyes, it is an insumountable hurdle for most farmers.
Our organization collects donations to finance smokefree cooking stoves, takes care of their widespread introduction and organizes training of the cooking stove manufacturers.
But it is not sufficient just to install stoves. To reach the goal of banning open fires from the inside of the houses, people have to be informed and we have to check quality of the stoves and proper handling. This is why we operate in three steps:
