Katharina Dworschak
I was born in Zweibrücken and completed my Physics Master, at the Max-Planck Institute for particle phyiscs in Heidelberg, and a PhD in fundamental particle theory, 12 years with BMW in Munich.
A few years ago I decided to take a new path in life and started studying medicine. The dream of working in developing countries lead me to hospitals in India, Nepal and Africa. In spring 2009 I met Christa Drigalla in Sushma Koirala Memorial Hospital near Kathmandu and learned of her cooking stove projects.
The burns which women and children suffer on open fires are terrible. I see clay stoves a simple and effective measure to avoid these accidents.
In 2010 I set up "The Stovemakers" together with my husband and in spring 2011 completed the contract with our first partner organisation "Swasta Chulo" in Nepall. In 2011 I also completed my medical qualification.
As a dedicated believer the One Health Concept (healthy people, animals and environment) I actively support a project for "street dogs" in Kathmandu in addition to my work as a doctor.
