The cooking stove manufacturer can build different models to fit the size and needs of the household. Each household contributes to the work and provides the materials for the clay bricks and tiles.
The cooking stove manufacturer and the iron and pottery components must be paid for. The costs for a cooking stove are around 12 €. Even if that is not much in our eyes, it is an insumountable hurdle for most farmers.
Our organization collects donations to finance smokefree cooking stoves, takes care of their widespread introduction and organizes training of the cooking stove manufacturers.
But it is not sufficient just to install stoves. To reach the goal of banning open fires from the inside of the houses, people have to be informed and we have to check quality of the stoves and proper handling. This is why we operate in three steps:
- Before stove installation: Information and education by village meetings. The hazards of open fire and the advantages of the stoves are told as well as proper handling and maintenance. See some of the posters we are using at these events.
- Stove installation
- After the stove installation: Experienced field workers together with local or foereign volunteers visit the villages and do surveys using standardited forms. The results are giving us intelligence about the quality of the stoves and their condition, the way of usage and the stisfaction of the owner. See one of the forms being used.
